Terms of use

1. Purpose

These Terms of Use (the "Terms") set out how the Bikipi platform (the "Service") may be used. The Service is available through the mobile app and the bikipi.com website.

Bikipi is a platform that connects touring cyclists with hosts offering accommodation free of charge.

2. Access to the service

The Service is available free of charge to anyone with an internet connection. Some features require a user account.

Bikipi reserves the right to suspend or interrupt access to the Service for maintenance, for updates or for any other reason, without notice or compensation.

3. Registration

To use the Service, users must create an account with accurate, up-to-date information. Users are responsible for keeping their credentials confidential and for any activity carried out under their account.

Registration is open to natural persons aged 16 or over.

4. User obligations

Users undertake to:

  • Use the Service fairly and for its intended purpose.
  • Refrain from publishing unlawful, offensive, defamatory or indecent content.
  • Respect other users and remain courteous in their exchanges.
  • Refrain from using the Service for commercial purposes, under the conditions set out in article 5.1.
  • Provide accurate information and keep their profile up to date.
  • Honour the commitments made to other users, in particular regarding accommodation.

Any breach of these obligations may lead to the account being suspended or deleted, without notice or compensation.

5. Accommodation

Bikipi acts as a platform that connects people and is not a party to the accommodation arrangements made between users. The platform cannot be held liable for the quality, safety or compliance of the accommodation offered.

Hosts undertake to offer accommodation matching the description published on the platform and to comply with applicable safety standards.

Travellers undertake to respect the host's home and to follow the rules the host communicates.

5.1 Accommodation is free of charge

Accommodation offered through the Service is strictly free of charge. Hosts may not ask travellers for any payment, nor make their welcome conditional on buying a good or a service. Voluntarily sharing costs actually incurred, such as a meal or groceries, remains possible where both parties freely offer and accept it.

Listings from businesses offering paid accommodation, in particular campsites, hotels, guest houses and holiday rentals, are not allowed on the Service, unless Bikipi has given prior written agreement covering a free stay that is clearly identified as such in the listing.

Bikipi may remove without notice any listing that breaches this article, and suspend its author's account under the conditions set out in article 4.

6. Liability

Bikipi does everything it can to keep the Service running properly. The platform cannot, however, be held liable for:

  • Direct or indirect damages arising from the use of, or the inability to use, the Service.
  • The behaviour of users or disputes that may arise between them.
  • Loss or damage suffered during a stay arranged through the platform.
  • Temporary interruptions of the Service for maintenance or updates.

7. Intellectual property

All elements of the Service (trademarks, logos, text, images, software and so on) are the exclusive property of Bikipi or its partners and are protected by intellectual property law.

Content published by users remains their property. By publishing content on the platform, users grant Bikipi a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, display and distribute that content as part of running the Service.

8. Changes to these Terms

Bikipi reserves the right to change these Terms at any time. Users will be informed of any substantial change by an in-app notification or by email.

Continuing to use the Service after the Terms have changed constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by French law. In the event of a dispute, the parties shall seek an amicable solution. Failing that, the competent courts of Lyon shall have sole jurisdiction.
